Starting autumn 2015, University of Tampere, Finland will be offering a renewed two-year Master’s Degree Programme in Russian and European Studies (RES). The programme will be open to student applications from 15 December 2014.
As of 2015, the programme will be offered in an updated form, meeting the demands of the time even better and being more in tune with the requirements of contemporary working life – without compromising the academic quality of the programme.
"We have something special to offer in Tampere: a programme with timely contents and sound academic basis that equips the students for working life”, explains Hanna Ojanen, Jean Monnet Professor who is in charge of the programme.
Master’s Degree Programme in Russian and European Studies offers a unique interdisciplinary learning environment for students interested in Russian politics, society, culture and language as well as in global, international and regional political dynamics in the European North.
The Master's programme offers systematic training in these questions regardless of the students’ previous disciplinary background. Previous knowledge of Russian is not required from IR and Sociology students. Russian language courses enabling students to acquire a working knowledge of Russian are offered as part of the programme. Students of Russian Language and Culture are required to have a good command of the language, since a majority of the courses is offered in Russian.
One of the exiting features of the programme is its cooperation with Petrozavodsk and St. Petersburg State Universities in Russia. International Relations major is offered as a “Finnish-Russian Cross-Border University” (CBU) double degree programme with the two partner universities. A considerable part of IR studies is organized jointly, and students from all three meet each semester for an intensive course.
