 https://networks.h-net.org/node/73374/announcements/186862/asia-russian-imagination
The University of Utah’s Asia Center is hosting an interdisciplinary conference on Siberia, Central Asia, and the Russian Far East and North Pacific, organized around the theme of “Asia in the Russian Imagination.” The conference will be held at the University of Utah’s campus in Salt Lake City on  March 23-24, 2018 .
We welcome proposals exploring political, economic, and socio-cultural interactions from a variety of fields and perspectives.  We foresee extended discussions on Russian-Asian connections and networks, as well as policies, processes, and populations in “Russian Asia,” within the imperial, Soviet, or post-Soviet eras.  We hope that this conference honors the interdisciplinary tradition established by the British Universities Siberian Studies Seminar, last held in 2007.
Following the conference, the organizers intend to publish a selection of the essays either as a special issue of a journal or as an edited volume.
The Asia Center, a Title VI National Resource Center for Asian and Pacific Studies, serves as a hub for Asia-related activities at the University of Utah involving teaching, research, and outreach to K-12 schools and the broader community. The center supports Asian Studies in its broadest sense, incorporating the languages and countries of the core regions of East, South, Southeast, and Central Asia as well as Russia, the Pacific, and West Asia.  Over the past three years, the Asia Center’s “Siberian Initiative” has sponsored talks on anthropology, environmental studies, history, film studies, and linguistics, and we hope to continue this interdisciplinary approach to Russia in Asia/Asia in Russia at our conference.
Please submit proposals for individual papers  no later than 15 October 2017  to the Events Coordinator of Utah’s International Studies program, Rocío Torres   [email protected] . Please include a subject line of “Asia-Russia 2018” to make sure you receive full consideration. Submissions should include a 250-word abstract as well as a brief (1-2 page) C.V.  The organizers will make their decisions by early December.

COMPETITIONS / КОНКУРСЫ

http://heranet.info/hera-jrp-iv-public-spaces-culture-and-integration-europe
HERA JRP IV Public Spaces: Culture and Integration in Europe
“Public Spaces: Culture and Integration in Europe” (HERA JRP PS)
The Humanities in the European Research Area (HERA) Network has launched a new Joint
Research Programme under the theme “Public Spaces: Culture and Integration in Europe”
(HERA JRP PS). Humanities’ perspectives are crucial to understanding the issues and formulating
successful policies in this area, on that basis we wish to invite transnational consortia to submit
proposals for humanities-led research. Proposed research may draw upon insights and methodologies
from a wide spectrum of arts and humanities disciplines. Although humanities-driven, consortia
are able to involve contributions from other research domains where appropriate.
The HERA JRP PS wants to mobilize the wide range of multi-disciplinary perspectives
necessary to understanding the relationships between “public space”, culture and other phenomena,
such as e.g. European integration. The research is expected to give new insights that promote the
full potential of citizens’ engagement with European public and cultural spaces; to stimulate public,
political and scholarly debate about the future prospects of European integration, and to study new
modes of interactive and reciprocal engagement between academics and various types of stakeholders
including those working in the media, creative industries, and heritage sectors, as they have proved
to be the true vehicles of European integration. The challenge for research is to identify how
the relations between culture and integration within the context of public space(s) have been modelled
and how they can be better understood in order to contribute to a better world.
The beneficiaries of this Call are eligible researchers located in the HERA JRP PS countries:
Austria, Belgium (Wallonia), Czech Republic, Croatia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany,
Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia,
Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and United Kingdom , irrespective of their nationality.
The HERA JRP PS is co-funded by humanities funding agencies in 24 participating countries and
the European Commission, with the total budget amounting up to 20 M€. The Netherlands
Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) will act as the Handling Agency managing the call
and selection process on behalf of the HERA funding partners. Proposals will be selected
in a two-step process involving an independent international Review Panel.
Collaborative Research Projects (CRP) proposals can be submitted by balanced consortia involving
four  or more Principal Investigators eligible to HERA JRP PS funders from four or more  different
countries. Applicants are strongly encouraged to take equality and diversity dimension issues into
consideration. Each CRP proposal can apply for research funding up to a maximum amount of 1 M€
(across all partners), should be between 24 and 36 months in duration and should commence
by May 2019. All research teams will be urged to include non-academic stakeholders as associate
partners in their consortiums. Applicants will be required to include an impact section in their proposal,
specifying how their research results will be valorised and communicated to a wider public.
Outline Proposals must be submitted electronically via the HERA website by
Tuesday 24 October 2017, 14:00 CEST (Central European Summer Time) .
In February 2018, successful applicants will be invited to submit Full Proposals with the deadline in
May 2018. Funded projects must start by May 2019 and end no later than May 2022.
The online submission system will be open from September 2017 onwards.
