FELLOWSHIPS / СТАЖИРОВКИ И СТИПЕНДИИ

http://www.fundit.fr/en/calls/research-fellowships-collegium-lyon?utm_source=The+Fund%E2%94%8BIt+Newsletter&utm_campaign=ce8368202b-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2017_03_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_2569497ccc-ce8368202b-150770157
Research Fellowships at Collegium de Lyon
Each academic year, the Collegium de Lyon welcomes approximately twenty high-level researchers from outside Rhône-Alpes, both senior and junior, who are selected by an international scientific board. A senior researcher would occupy a high-level academic position (for example, professor), while juniors are defined as well-recognised young (less than 40 years old) researchers.

The Collegium de Lyon is an international and multidisciplinary IAS, focusing on social sciences without excluding exact sciences. Its purpose is to create an academic community based on a culture of excellence, supporting exchanges between disciplines, cultures and languages.

The Institute benefits from Lyon's overall academic environment, coupling its research to the scientific and educational potential of the city (universities and grandes écoles, research networks, institutions), with the vision of developing cross-disciplinary reflections and launching pioneering research.

The Collegium de Lyon's primary ambition is to link the Institute's research program to the diffusion of knowledge for action. In the domain of public policy, it should therefore act as an intermediary between the research sphere and political and social issues. Research undertaken within the Institute should comprise reflections informing the construction of public policy: urban policy and planning, health policy and risk management, cultural policy, international relations and urban powers, development of heritage sites, etc..

During their stay at the Collegium de Lyon, Fellows will engage in research projects either on an individual basis, or grouped around themes which resonate with the Collegium's research priorities. They are also given the opportunity of forming thematic-based research groups in collaboration either with other Fellows engaged in pursuing common goals, or with other researchers working in the same field.

In general, their stay at the Collegium has duration of ten months; however, five-month stays are also acceptable.
 application date 30 Apr 2017

 Call for  paper, panel, and roundtable proposals
17th Annual Aleksanteri Conference
RUSSIA’S CHOICES FOR 2030

Time and venue: 25-27 October 2017, University of Helsinki, Finland
Organiser: Aleksanteri Institute, University of Helsinki and Finnish Centre of Excellence in Russian Studies “Choices of Russian Modernisation”

The Aleksanteri Institute at the University of Helsinki will hold the 17th Annual International Aleksanteri Conference on 25-27 October 2017. The conference will bring together scholars, experts and advanced graduate students from a variety of disciplines such as economics, political science, sociology, geography, history, law, and cultural studies.

Where Russia will be in 2030 is no longer as clear as it seemed a while ago. Some years ago, ‘emerging powers’ and the BRICS countries, including Russia, seemed to be on a path to experiencing strong economic growth, delivering well-being to their citizens, shaping global cultural trends, and ultimately challenging the prevailing balance of power. For many reasons, such expectations have proved somewhat one-dimensional. As a response to this changing trajectory, the Russian Government has initiated a new development strategy until 2030. World leaders in economy and politics, in academia and outside continue related debates. The 17th Aleksanteri Conference will focus on Russian actors, who are making the choices on the way to 2030; explore the multiple structures and environments within which these actors are making these choices; and analyse the legacies of the pre-Soviet, Soviet, and post-Soviet periods which, in turn, are shaping Russia’s choices.
While we particularly welcome paper, panel, and roundtable proposals addressing this forward-looking agenda, we also wish to see proposals examining any current or historical developments that can be relevant for understanding Russia’s choices and the contexts within which they are made. We also welcome proposals that address the choices of less central actors in Russia, as well as Russia’s neighbours in Europe, Asia, and elsewhere that have a bearing on Russia.
The 2017 Aleksanteri Conference will also be the closing conference of the Finnish Centre of Excellence in Russian Studies “Choices of Russian Modernisation”.

The conference committee suggests the following sub-themes for consideration:
•                          Russia’s economic development and strategies
•                          Russia’s industrial policy, industry 4.0, and global supply chains
•                          Science, innovation, and technology policy in Russia
•                          Energy and sustainability
•                          Russia’s welfare regime
•                          Russia in global and regional governance processes
•                          Russia and global transformations
•                          Russian foreign policy
•                          Institutions and decision-making in Russia and post-Soviet states
•                          Authoritarianism and development
•                          Pre-Soviet, Soviet, and post-Soviet legacies
•                          The intertwining of culture and economy
•                          The Russian state’s new cultural policy
•                          Russian cultural statecraft

Confirmed keynote speakers:
•                          Professor Georgi Derluguian, NYU Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates
•                          Dr. Irina Dezhina, Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology, Russia

 CALL FOR PAPERS
Accelerated development? Socio-political landslides, cultural ruptures and literary history in Eastern Europe
Ghent University
September 29 – October 1, 2017

http://www.slavistiek.ugent.be/Accelerateddevelopment ).

In 1964 the Bulgarian-Belarusian-Russian scholar Georgii Gachev coined the term ‘uskorennoe razvitie’ or ‘accelerated development’ in his 1964 monograph  Accelerated Development of Literature: On the Basis of the Bulgarian Literature of the First Half of the 19 th Century .    The term describes what happened to Bulgarian literature during Ottoman rule. Being a ‘young’ and ‘peripheral’ literature, having started to develop only recently at the time, Bulgarian literature ‘had to’ go through the whole evolution of European literature at a high pace in order to catch up with the latter. One of the side effects of this accelerated development was that characteristics of different style periods could even co-occur. Gachev’s thought-provoking idea has never really received a lot of attention, except in Bulgarian studies, where the concept was elaborated, criticized and / or gave way to new theories (Petar Dinekov, Nikolai Genchev, Roumen Daskalov, Alexander Kiossev …), but mostly with regard to the development of Bulgarian culture and society.

Today Gachev’s theory seems outdated, not in the least for its centralist assumptions – i.e. taking for granted that central cultures take the lead and peripheral cultures follow suit – that form the very basis of the Eurocentric theory. Nonetheless, the potential of the very kernel of the concept is obvious – both for dealing with the literary histories of other ‘young’ and/or ‘peripheral’ literatures in different time periods and for challenging the different notions that form the basis of Gachev’s theory – ‘peripheral’, ‘young’, ‘Western’, ‘dominant’, ‘oppression’, ‘conservatism’. ‘Accelerated development’ may be a suitable term to describe how Western literary critics in the 19 th  century thought about the quickly evolving, ‘peripheral’ Russian literature of the time. ‘Accelerated development’ may also be applied to the evolution of (certain) Modernist movements in the ‘peripheral’ Eastern Europe. And what to say about the apparent fast-forward evolution of the East-European literatures after the collapse of Communism, quickly adapting Postmodernism, Magical Realism, and other literary trends that other, ‘central’ literatures had been going through earlier?

This conference aims to explore – i.e., to corroborate, to challenge or to further develop – the concept of accelerated development by looking at concrete cases in the literary histories of Eastern Europe where one can speak of a major rupture, such as suddenly acquired cultural independence or freedom or technological evolution, that causes the literature to change course and, possibly, to ‘accelerate’. More specifically, this conference hopes to find new ways to look at the complex relationships between dominant and non- or less-dominant, central and peripheral, old and young literatures and cultures, colonizing and colonized cultures, progressive and conservative cultures, open and oppressive / repressive cultures, etc. Additionally, the conference aims to discuss the (catalytic) role of cultural agents in the process of accelerated development and the tension(s) between literary and extra-literary motivations. Lastly, the conference hopes to shed light on how cultures going through an accelerated development look at their earlier selves and whether, and if so, how accelerated developments may also lead to new, ‘own’ literary forms that are not quite related to the seemingly dominant cultures.

The keynote speakers include Raymond Detrez (Belgium), Galin Tihanov (UK) and Willem G. Weststeijn (The Netherlands).

The conference will take place at Ghent University, Ghent, Belgium, on September 29 – October 1, 2017. Please send your abstract of approximately 400 words together with your short CV (no more than one page) to the conference organizers. The deadline for proposals is April 1, 2017. Notification of acceptance of proposals will be provided by May, 2017. Queries and proposals should be sent to the conference organizers – Ben Dhooge, Michel De Dobbeleer and Miglena Dikova-Milanova.

*  Идентичности и социально-политическая рефлексия;
*  Профессиональные сообщества в науке и образовании;
*  Секуляризм и религия;
*  «Европейское» в повседневности;
*  Управленческие практики;
*  Технология и производство.

Общая структура конференции предполагает:
*  серию докладов руководителей и участников проекта о пятилетних итогах исследовательской работы;
*  выступления специально приглашенных ведущих ученых, посвященных общему анализу социокультурных процессов, характерных для «Большой Европы» в XVIII - начале ХХ в.;
*  серию докладов специалистов, не входивших в исследовательский коллектив, по тематике конференции;
*  культурную программу, которая предусматривает знакомство с достопримечательностями Екатеринбурга и посещение исторических центров Среднего Урала.

The ESRC Research Grants (open call) invites proposals from eligible individuals and research teams for standard research projects, large-scale surveys and other infrastructure projects and for methodological developments. The call offers researchers considerable flexibility to focus on any subject area or topic providing that it falls within ESRC’s remit. Proposals can draw from the wider sciences, but the social sciences must represent more than 50 per cent of the research focus and effort.

We particularly encourage ambitious and novel research proposals addressing new concepts and techniques and those with the potential for significant scientific or societal and economic impact. We are also keen to encourage fresh ideas from new researchers and appropriate proposals are welcomed from those with limited research experience.

Our funding decisions are based on a number of criteria including quality, timeliness, potential impact and value for money.

The call is for applications ranging from £350,000 to £1 million (100 per cent full economic cost (fEC)) for a period of up to five years.

You can submit proposals to the call at any time - there are no fixed closing dates.

Scope
Proposals to the Research Grants (open call) can be for basic, applied or strategic research. The call allows proposals for standard research projects, methodological development, or for large-scale surveys or other infrastructures (eg linguistic corpora or the classification, cataloguing and compilation of information which would be of benefit to social science researchers and a possible wider audience.) It is important that infrastructure proposals clearly demonstrate their utility to a broad community of researchers, and wider audiences as appropriate.

It is also possible to submit a proposal for two or more linked projects, provided that the relationship between them is properly explained and justified.

Funding
The call is for proposals ranging from £350,000 to £1 million (100 per cent full Economic Cost (fEC)) for a period of up to five years. Proposals will need to show 100 per cent of full Economic Cost of the proposed research. The ESRC will meet 80 per cent of the full economic costs on proposals submitted.
