· новая антропология как опыт литературного описания новой социокультурной ситуации - культурного и ментального раскола, обусловленного геополитическими, технологическими, информационными и пр. сдвигами и революциями;
· литературная социология – описание появившихся на рубеже XX – XXI вв. человеческих типов, духовно-нравственных коллизий и революции менталитета;
· антропологические следствия глобализации (влияние музыки, поведенческих установок, стереотипов вторгающейся культуры на традиционные модели поведения); судьба национальных типов: русский, белорус, украинец, татарин, еврей, кавказец и пр. в XIX – XXI вв.;
· новая типология, обусловленная сменой культурного кода, стереотипов поведения, этики и эстетики (субкультуры панков, готов и т. п.; новая интеллектуальная, культурная, политическая "элита"; "народ" и население);
· эволюция известных литературных типов ( « маленький » или « лишний » человек, идеальная женщина, святой и праведник, русск ий космополит), традиционных проблем (проблема индивидуализма) и духовных коллизий ( например, спор западников и славянофилов) в XX – XXI вв.;

Interprofessional and Interdisciplinary Relations in Russia
Zones of Collaboration, Competition and Conflict
International conference, funded by Durham University's Faculty of Arts & Humanities and its School of Modern Languages and Cultures , taking place in Durham on 19-21 September 2014 at the Institute of Advanced Study .
Professions and sciences form a complex, highly differentiated yet closely interconnected, field of expert knowledge and labour, vital to all modern states and societies. The focus of this conference will be on the dynamics of this field in Russian history in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The conference will re-examine the history of Russian professions and sciences from a new vantage point – that of interprofessional and interdisciplinary relations . This is a neglected aspect of this history, yet vital to understanding how Russian professions and sciences created, defined and legitimised their work, expertise and jurisdictions. The topic is particularly timely given the importance currently accorded to interdisciplinary and interprofessional collaboration in matters of academic and technological innovation, and the purported potential that this has for solving complex challenges, including those relating to the environment, healthcare, changing demographics, and the way new technologies affect society. For further details see the conference agenda .
Confirmed participants include (in alphabetical order): Nick Baron (University of Nottingham), Frances Bernstein (Drew University), Andy Byford (Durham University), Juliette Cadiot (EHESS, Paris), Victoria Donovan (University of St Andrews), Karl Hall (Central European University), Jonathan Oldfield (University of Birmingham), and Kenneth Pinnow (Allegheny College).
The keynote lecture, titled Russian 'Cosmism' as a Potential Inspiration for Twenty-First Century Interdisciplinary Work will be given by Professor Steve Fuller of the University of Warwick.
On how to submit a proposal see the open call for papers .
The deadline for the submission of proposals is 22 April 2014 .

Social cohesion and harmony are based largely on sociability, a form of ‘soft’ police
referring to the capacity of individuals to interact, communicate, and live together
without the ongoing intervention of a coercive power. Sociability therefore pertains
to the multiple ways individuals have of coming into contact with friends or
strangers, be it in person, through clubs, salons, societies or other associations, or at
a distance, through correspondence, publication and debate.
This conference sets out to examine the evolution of sociability in the long eighteenth
century and to do so through the prism of the numerous revolutions — political,
commercial, industrial, scientific, literary and artistic — which helped to redefine
sociability’s forms and to redirect its practices. It will accordingly be possible to
consider the full range of topics linked to this subject, notably philosophical debates
and literary representations on the theme of human nature and social relations,
exploration of social networks and the institutions which sustained them, as well
as the examination of forces which tended to transform or disturb the forms
and practices of sociability. Authors of the Scottish Enlightenment such as Francis Hutcheson, David Hume, Adam Smith, James Boswell and Robert Burns
were key figures in debates on sociability during the eighteenth century, and
proposals dedicated to them will be welcome.
The organising committee invites the submission of panels or other presentations
both on the conference’s general theme and on all other subjects relating to the
eighteenth century. Individual proposals are welcome and the committee will seek to
group these into panels on consistent themes. However, participants are also invited
to submit proposals for complete panels, including two or (ideally) three speakers
together with the names of a chair and a commentator. Proposals for roundatables or
all other kinds of contribution will also be positively received.
---
Proposals for panels or papers might include the following themes, although this is
not an exhaustive list :
‣ Spaces of sociability
‣ Police, surveillance and espionnage
‣ Science and the Republic of Letters
‣ Freemasonry
‣ Urban space and land use
‣ Writing as a social act
‣ The figure of the hermit
‣ Sociability and political revolutions
‣ Perspectives on the crowd
‣ Sensibility and social distinction
‣ Communication networks
‣ Friendship
‣ Schooling, education and the transmission of knowledge
‣ Celebrity, notoriety, and public space
‣ Moral and Sociality
‣ Etc.
The keynote speakers for this conference will be Pierre Serna, professor at the
University of Paris–I Panthйon-Sorbonne, director of the Institut d’histoire
de la Rйvolution franзaise, and vice-president of the Commission internationale
d’histoire de la Rйvolution franзaise; and James Moore, emeritus professor at
Concordia University.
Proposals (in French or in English) should be submitted in electronic form
and sent to the conference organiser, Pascal Bastien, at the following address:
[email protected]. They should contain a title, a summary (of no more than one
page) for presentations of 20 minutes or for panels of three papers,
and a short CV (of no more than one page) for each participant. ---
Deadline for the submission of proposals: April 1st, 2014.
---
The organizing committee will receive tentative proposals for the conference through
summer and fall of 2013: those interested are invited to submit a provisional paper
or session title and sign up for the conference info-letter.
The info-letter will remind participants of deadlines and provide information on
various conference activities and funding possibilities. Future participants will still

NEW ANNUAL CONFERENCE ON TANGENTIAL POINTS BETWEEN NATURAL SCIENCES AND ARTS
http://aaltowebstudio.cloudapp.net/tangentialpoints/
Special topic: Influence of A. Bogdanov's systemic thinking on film arts via the Proletkult-movement
We invite abstracts for paper presentations in the two-day international conference to be held at Aalto University, Helsinki, May 15-16, 2014.
This new annual conference will bring together international scholars from natural sciences and arts to discuss historical and contemporary tangenting points between distinct fields. Each year a new specific topic will provide participants with a playground for creating, sharing, and cultivating a multiplicity of novel, even radical tangential points between natural sciences and arts.
The 1st meeting aims at linking the early Russian systemic thinking with the montage thinking that emerged within the film community in the first half of the 20th century. The young Sergei M. Eisenstein, among other artists, joined the Proletkult, a cross-disciplinary movement aiming to revolutionize culture, arts, and sciences. The medical doctor Alexander Bogdanov was the ideological father of this movement. Bogdanov held regular lectures, which embedded his tektological ideas of organization and emergent behavior as universal mechanisms of nature and society. Once V.I. Lenin’s closest collaborator, Bogdanov soon became his worst rival, and his systemic ideas were doomed to vanish from the Soviet history until their re-discovery in the 1980s. The tangenting points between the early systemic thinking and film arts constitute the general topic of this meeting. Among the specific issues is, for example, to what extent Eisenstein theoretical work on montage systems was influenced by the systemic thinking of Alexander Bogdanov. To reach for present day, one may even ask, to what extent are these early systemic ideas recycled in contemporary media art theories?
We encourage expert and student submissions that link systemic thinking with film arts in general, or with Bogdanov, Eisenstein, and the Proletkult-movement in particular. A joint special topic publication based on proposed papers will also be considered.

British Academy/Leverhulme Small Research Grants Call for Proposals
Application forms for a new call for proposals for British Academy/Leverhulme Small Research Grants are now available on e-GAP: https://egap.britac.ac.uk
The British Academy is currently inviting applications from scholars for the BA/Leverhulme Small Research Grants scheme, which is administered by the Academy.
Applications must be submitted via the e-GAP system, accessible at https://egap.britac.ac.uk/ Intending applicants need to register themselves in the system, if not already registered, and should access full details by following the links to ‘funding schemes’ from the personal welcome page, and then the link to this scheme. The deadline for applications is Wednesday 16 April 2014.
Funding
The British Academy announced a major new partnership in January 2012 to support the funding of the Small Research Grants scheme. The scheme offers awards co-sponsored by the Leverhulme Trust, with funding of £1.5 million over 3 years, matching the public funding deriving from the grant made to the Academy via the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills. In addition, the Academy continues to be able to offer some awards derived from funds generously donated by other funders, including the Sino-British Fellowship Trust, the Sir Ernest Cassel Educational Trust, the Modern Humanities Research Association, and from endowments held by the Academy. All successful applicants will be clearly informed of the source of the funding of their grant when an award has been offered, and will be expected to include due acknowledgement of the funder and the Academy when disseminating the results of the research funded under this scheme.
Purpose of grant
Grants are available to support primary research in the humanities and social sciences. The first recourse for funding should be to your own institution (where applicable). Applications will not be considered for less than £500. The maximum grant is £10,000 over two years. Applications for collaborative or individual research projects are equally welcome under this scheme. Applications from international groups of scholars are welcome, provided there is a UK-based scholar as lead applicant.
Funds are available to facilitate initial project planning and development; to support the direct costs of research; and to enable the advancement of research through workshops or conferences, or visits by or to partner scholars. Applicants may seek support for any combination of eligible activity and cost up to the overall limit of £10,000. The Academy will assess applications equally on their merits, with no preference as to mode of enquiry.
Level of grant: Awards up to £10,000
Deadline for submission of applications: 16 April 2014
Results expected: end July 2014
Earliest Start Date for Research: 1 September 2014
